NHL Division 2 round-up

A two-goal blast from Sean McBride saw Derry get off the mark in NHL Division 2A this afternoon as they beat Armagh 2-13 to 0-9 at Celtic Park.

The Ballinascreen corner-forward scored both goals in the space of a minute, early on in the first half, as he capitalised on some poor goalkeeping from Armagh net minder Paudie Moran.

Derry, who lost by 20 points to Laois a fortnight ago, fire ahead with free-taker Gareth O'Kane scoring with seven placed balls and the Hinphey brothers - Liam (0-3) and Kevin (0-2) - chipping in with five points between them.

Armagh, who are rooted to the bottom of the table, relied largely on Declan Coulter (0-4) and Barney McCann (0-2) for their scores.

Meanwhile, Wicklow are the surprise leaders in Division 2A after they shocked Damien Fox's Laois side by beating them 2-12 to 1-12 in Arklow this afternoon.

Wayne O'Gorman grabbed the Garden County's two goals to see them follow up their opening weekend win over Meath.

The other game in Division 2A, between Carlow and Meath, was called off due to an unplayable pitch at Dr Cullen Park.

In Division 2B, Kildare lead the way after drawing 2-13 to 1-16 with Westmeath at Cusack Park. Oisin Lynch and Colm Buggy grabbed the Lilywhites' goals, while Barry Kennedy netted for the hosts.

Mayo's hurlers registered a very satisfying 2-13 to 1-8 victory over Kerry at Castlebar, having trailed by 1-6 to 1-2 at the interval. Wing-forward Rory Campion struck the only goal for Martin Brennan's westerners, while Michael Conway found the net for Kerry.
