McMahon ruled out for Clare

Diarmuid McMahon has been ruled out of contention for a place in the Clare team for Sunday's NHL Division 1A clash with Wexford.

The versatile Kilmaley forward is still recovering from the ankle injury he sustained in Clare's opening win over Down, two weeks ago.

The Clare panel trained at St. Flannan's College last night.

Manager Tony Considine has a number of other injury worries ahead of Sunday's game, with a 'flu bug also hampering the Banner's preparations.

Wexford ran out 2-13 to 0-11 victors in last season's reverse fixture in the National League.

Meanwhile, the March meeting of the Clare County Board took place last night at the West County Hotel in Ennis.

A number of delegates and officials from the County Board called for an end to the media circus that has surrounded the Clare senior hurling panel in recent weeks, with some calling for immediate mediation in the row between Considine and long-time goalkeeper Davy Fitzgerald.

The situation has grown since Fitzgerald walked away from the squad in January, following a disagreement with manager Considine regarding training arrangements.

Martin Lynch may be approached to help act as a mediator between the two, with Clare County chairman Michael McDonagh agreeing that the Newmarket official could be the man to draw the two parties into discussion.

Clarecastle clubman Ger Ward also issued a statement, which was read by Clarecastle chairman Pascal Russell, clarifying the reasons for his resignation as county selector, with "a difference of hurling beliefs" cited as the main reason for his stepping down.
