Today will see Ballyboden clubman Stephen Hiney pull on a Dublin jersey for the first time since July 2005, as the capital side take on the Dubs Stars in the annual end-of-year clash.
Hiney's last outing for the Dublin senior hurlers came against Laois in last year's All-Ireland SHC relegation play-off.
It was then discovered that the St Enda's defender had retina damage in both eyes and in October last year. He underwent surgery on one and has laser treatment on the other.
The youngster's inter-county career was left hanging by a thread but a remarkable recovery, which saw him return at senior level for Ballyboden last summer, has him back in the reckoning for Dublin.
He will start this afternoon's Dublin Bus/Evening Herald Dubs Stars hurling match at full-back - the tie takes place at the Naomh Mearnog club in Portmarnock (throw-in 2pm). The football encounter is next Saturday at the same venue.
Hiney's clubmate Emmet Carroll is also making his return for the Dublin hurlers, having opted out of the panel for 2006. There is one newcomer to the Dublin line-up - Waterford native Declan Qualter, who plays his club hurling for St Vincent's, has been listed at centre forward.
There are three changes to the original Dubs Stars side as David Curtin, Ronan Fallon and Kevin Flynn are all unavailable due to travel commitments. Fergal Armstrong, Michael Carton and Kevin O'Reilly are their replacements.
Proceedings at Naomh Mearnog get underway at 12.30pm with a camogie game between Ballyboden St. Enda's and the Dublin team.
