Tipperary 0-13 Kilkenny 1-8
Tipperary's greater experience saw them earn a place in the Gala All-Ireland Senior 'A' camogie final at Nowlan Park yesterday.
A goal from teenager Marie Dargan, 12 minutes into the second half, levelled the game at 0-10 to 1-7 but Tipp, beaten finalists last season, were never headed thereafter.
Midfielder Claire Grogan followed the goal with her fourth free of the second half and Tipp held on until the finish.
Playing against a strong wind in the first half, Cora Hennessy opened the scoring for Tipp in the fourth-minute. But Kilkenny showed their intent with Brigid Mulally replying within two minutes.
The Munster girls moved into a 0-7 to 0-5 lead for half-time with captain Philly Fogarty impressing at centre-back, and Sinead Nealon mopping up at left half-back. Kilkenny wing forward Imelda Kennedy top-scored in the first half with three excellent frees.
She added a fourth, cancelling out a Grogan score, six minutes into the second half to keep her side in touch. Kilkenny seemed to find a new life when substitute Dargan, reacting quickest to the rebound of a Mulally shot, scooped home her goal.
However a defiant display from 2005 All-Star goalkeeper Jovita Delaney, which saw her save twice at the feet of a Kilkenny forward in the closing stages, kept Tipp ahead and ruined Kilkenny's chances of a first All-Ireland visit to Croke Park since 2001 - when Tipperary beat them in the final.
Tipp, who are gunning for their first All-Ireland title since 2004, were served best by hard working half-forwards Emily Hayden and Cora Hennessy, who finished with 0-2 apiece.
