Antrim draft in Dallas

Malachy Dallas will hope to cover over the cracks left by the injured Liam Watson for Antrim's tilt at Christy Ring Cup glory on Sunday (Croke Park, throw-in 2pm).

A plasterer by trade, Ballycastle man Dallas comes into the Saffrons' line-up as a direct replacement for Watson at left half-forward.

Watson heads the competition's scoring ranks thanks to the 4-20 tally he accumulated in his last three games.

However, the Loughgiel sharpshooter sustained a double fracture of his hand last weekend and has been ruled out. He will make the trip to Dublin to be with the team.

Jim McKernan's men had an easy time of it in their semi-final, beating Kildare by 2-21 to 0-6, but Carlow, their opponents this weekend, are a team in form.

The Barrowsiders dumped Down out of the last-four and Antrim selector Paul McKillen knows they will be no pushovers.

He said: "Carlow are very strong - they're a big physical team and they can hurl a bit and certainly nobody will be taking them lightly on Sunday.

"In the Down game they were much the sharper side, and also showed the greater hunger on the day.

"But the most important thing is concentrating on our own game. Winning this Christy Ring Cup final is the objective now. We're in the final to win it because we don't want to be back in the Ring Cup next year."

ANTRIM (Ring Cup v Carlow) - DD Quinn; B McAuley, J McKeague, J Campbell; M Molloy, K McKeegan (capt), C Herron; C Cunning, M Scullion; J Scullion, C Kelly, M Dallas; J McIntosh, P Richmond, B McFall.
