Devanney earns Tipperary call-up

Toomevara attacker Francis Devanney has been drafted into the Tipperary side for Sunday's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final against Waterford at Croke Park (throw-in 4pm).

The 22-year-old Devanney is set for his first appearance of this year's championship.

With team captain Ger 'Redser' O'Grady still out in the cold after being axed from the panel last month for disciplinary reasons, Devanney comes in at centre forward.

That is the only change manager Michael 'Babs' Keating has made to the side that lost the Munster final to Cork on June 25.

There is one positional switch with O'Grady's Thurles Sarsfields' team-mate Lar Corbett, who lined out at full-forward against Cork, starting in the right corner.

Corbett, 25, will captain the Premier men in O'Grady's absence. He took the place of Michael Webster - the other player dropped by Keating for disciplinary reasons - for the Munster final.

Golden-Kilfeacle defender Jim Bob McCarthy, centre back on the Tipperary U21 team, is a new inclusion amongst the substitutes for the weekend.

Sunday's game will be the second between Tipperary and Waterford in the space of seven weeks. Keating's charges won the Munster semi-final by 3-14 to 1-12.

Tipp have qualified for four All-Ireland semi-finals in the last 10 years.
