Injured McBarron out for rest of season

Fermanagh footballer Liam McBarron will be forced to sit out for the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with a torn cruciate knee ligament.

The 30-year-old midfielder sustained the injury in the Ulster semi-final replay against Armagh late last month, but had hopes of returning for the Ernemen's All-Ireland SFC qualifier against Donegal.

However, on medical advice, the Dublin-based teacher is to undergo surgery in the coming weeks and has been ruled out of Fermanagh manager Charlie Mulgrew's plans for the foreseeable future.

Mulgrew's charges face Donegal in the fourth round of the qualifiers on Sunday week, and the midfield partnership of Mark Murphy and Marty McGrath, who impressed in the third round defeat of Wexford, should remain intact.
