Cork sweat on Canty injury

Cork defender Graham Canty is to have exploratory surgery on the knee he injured during last Sunday's Munster SFC final replay against Kerry.

Canty was arguably the driving force behind Cork's first Munster title since 2002, but was forced off for the final 10 minutes at Páirc Uí Chaoimh with a knee injury.

The Bantry Blues clubman lined out at left corner back, performing an excellent man-marking job on Colm 'Gooch' Cooper. In fact, Kerry's star forward scored just one point from play throughout the two games.

Losing a player of Canty's ability could unsettle the Cork defence for their All-Ireland quarter-final against either Fermanagh or Donegal on August 5. The Rebels have conceded only 0-24 in their three games to date this summer.

Canty will have his knee examined on Friday.
