In-control Longford overcome Waterford

All-Ireland SFC first round qualifier:

A controlled display helped Longford overcome the challenge of Waterford in their first round SFC qualifier meeting at Walsh Park.

Played in humid conditions, the Deise were in dream land when Karl O'Keeffe sprinted through to score a goal after 80 seconds.

A 24th-minute strike from Paul Barden, with impressive full-back Noel Farrell beginning the move, helped Longford hit the front - they led 1-07 to 1-04 at the interval.

Points from Kevin Smith and Paddy Dowd extended their lead and Waterford's chances were killed off when Gary Hurney missed a certain goal when one-on-one with Longford's Damien Sheridan.
