McElroy gets Farney chance
Hugh McElroy has been brought in to replace James McElroy in the Monaghan line-up for tomorrow evening's Ulster SFC quarter-final replay with Armagh (Clones, throw-in 5.30pm).
The Latton attacker came off the bench, replacing Rory Woods, to hit a vital free in the drawn game last weekend and has been rewarded by manager Seamus McEneaney for his eye-catching cameo. McElroy will start at left half-forward for the replay.
That is the only change to the Farney side that drew 0-10 to 0-10 with the 2005 Ulster champions last Sunday, although McEneaney has made a number of tactical switches.
Gary McQuaid, who started in the corner last Saturday, has been shifted to centre half-back to combat the threat of Brian Mallon. Dermot McArdle goes to the right corner with team captain Damien Freeman in at right half-back.
Dick Clerkin moves to midfield, switching positions with Paul Finlay, who clipped over the levelling free last time out.
McEneaney said: "Saturday's a whole new game and replays are almost always completely different from the drawn matches so we have to expect the unexpected as it were."
