Four new faces in Cork Championship squad

There are four newcomers on the Cork senior hurling squad for the Munster championship opener with Clare on May 28.

The Evening Echo has learned that Cloyne duo, Killian Cronin and Conor Cusack, Kanturk goalkeeper Anthony Nash and Newtownshandrum’s Cathal Naughton have all been included.

Bishopstown’s Ronan Conway is not included as he is concentrating on exams but the likelihood is that he too will be included later on.

Gone from the squad that featured during the league campaign are Graham Callinan, Dara McSweeney and Mickey O’Connell.

Nash replaces Newtown’s Paul Morrissey in the squad. The latter withdrew himself and Nash is an excellent replacement.

He has been held in high regard now for some time and is acknowledged as one of the best keepers around.

Callinan, O’Connell and McSweeney will be disappointed to lose out.

The Cork management is hoping to arrange at least one inter-county challenge game before heading to Thurles and a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland semi-final.
