Carmody and Meehan scoop players' awards
Clare hurler Tony Carmody and Galway footballer Michael Meehan have been named today as the Vodafone GAA Players of the Month for March.
The award for Inagh sharpshooter Carmody is a richly deserved one as he helped Clare soar to the top of the NHL Division 1A standings with wins over Waterford (1-16 to 0-15) and Offaly (2-22 to 2-14).
Playing at right corner forward, Carmody struck 0-6 against Waterford and notched 1-2 against Offaly from a centre forward berth.
Named Player of the Month for the first time, Carmody was presented with his award at a reception in Dublin's Westbury Hotel, along with Meehan.
Caltra attacker Meehan, a winner of a monthly award three years ago, was on fire in NFL Division 1B last month. The 21-year-old continued his fine form yesterday by bagging a goal against Down in a win which sent Galway through to the Division One semi-finals.
In his three League appearances in March, Meehan scored a stunning haul of 5-12 (1-04 v Armagh, 0-08 v Wexford and 4-00 v Meath).
Kelly said: "Tony and Michael are two of the outstanding sportsmen of our time. They have wonderful natural gifts and we are privileged to be able to enjoy their displays."
Vodafone's Head of Corporate Affairs Rosemary Steen added: "As the National Leagues reach their climax and the championship looms, both Tony and Michael have produced some wonderful performances and are worthy winners of these awards."
