Breheny appointed as full-time Sligo boss

Former county player Tommy Breheny has been appointed as the full-time Sligo football manager.

A meeting of the Sligo County Board last night saw the former St. Mary's boss ratified. Breheny had been acting as caretaker manager to the Sligo team since Dom Corrigan's dismissal on February 14.

Breheny, who will also take charge of the Yeats county's Under-21 side, will hold down the position until the end of the season when the County Board will review his performance.

He was drafted in as a selector under Corrigan in January of last year but was forced to step down later in the season due to work and family commitments.

2006 has been a year to forget so far for the Sligo footballers - four NFL Division 2B defeats on the trot. A sharp improvement will be needed if they are to live with leaders Westmeath, who visit Markievicz Park on Sunday.
