GPA to discuss player grants at emergency meeting tonight

The Gaelic Players Association is due hold an emergency meeting tonight to consider the next step in its campaign to secure grants for inter-county players.

The association was severely critical of the GAA's failure to attend a meeting on the issue last week with Sports Minister John O'Donoghue.

Incoming GAA president Nicky Brennan, who takes office in six weeks' time, has already indicated that the issue will be one of his priorities.

The GPA has put forward proposals that would lead to top players receiving grants of €2,500 per year.
