Easy does it for Down
Down 3-14 Wexford 3-06, Newcastle
Down eased out to their third league win against an out-of-sorts Wexford at Newcastle.
The Mourne men got the ideal start in snowy conditions when wing back Damien Rafferty goaled from a fifth-minute penalty. Wexford hit 11 wides in the first half – including three from the usually reliable Matty Forde. They trailed 0-03 to 1-04 at half-time.
A scoring burst of 2-06 at the start of the second half powered Down clear. Mickey Walsh goaled from the rebound of a Dan Hughes shot and Ronan Murtagh also netted. Sub PJ Banville (2) and Kieran Kennedy grabbed late goals for Wexford.
