Tyrone continue McKenna Cup dominance
Tyrone 1-15 Monaghan 0-08
Tyrone had an easy time of it at Casement Park today as they beat Monaghan to lift their third Dr McKenna Cup in as many seasons.
A ninth-minute goal from Sean Cavanagh helped the Red Hands push into a 1-05 to 0-02 lead by half-time.
Stephen O'Neill, who kicked five points in all, was on target in the early stages as was Monaghan's Hugh McElroy.
The second half saw Monaghan improve. Paul Finlay, Shane Smyth, Damien Freeman and McElroy, who had a goal chance brilliantly saved by Tyrone ’keeper Pascal McConnell, all pointed but there was no repeat of their 2003 McKenna win.
