Dublin 0-7 Monaghan 1-11

Monaghan perhaps put in the performance of the day as corner-forward Thomas Freeman inspired them to a shock defeat of Dublin at Parnell Park.

The 2005 Division Two champions burst into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead with Hugh McIlroy kicking four first-half points. Freeman gathered a high ball to goal on 23 minutes and the Farney men led 1-8 to 0-5 at the interval.

The Dubs looked shell-shocked and could only score two points in the entire second half through Alan Brogan and Tomás Quinn. Monaghan cantered home with three late points from Eoin Lennon, Freeman and McIlroy.
