'DCU four' have suspensions quashed

The four inter-county players who were suspended by the Higher Education Committee for allegedly playing for DCU whilst ineligible, have had their bans overturned.

Shane Ryan (Dublin), Dessie Dolan (Westmeath), Ross Munnelly (Laois) and Diarmuid Kinsella (Wexford) had their cases heard by the Central Appeals Committee last night. Their suspensions was thrown out on a technicality.

They were each hit with 12-week bans last month for playing for DCU in a Higher Education League match against Sligo IT in November. It was alleged that they were part-time students, and therefore, not eligible to play for the Glasnevin college.

The quartet are now free to play for DCU in the O'Byrne Shield and for their respective counties in the forthcoming National League, which begins on February 4.
