O'Grady nominated to captain Tipp

Ger 'Redser' O'Grady has been nominated by county champions Thurles Sarsfields to captain the Tipperary senior hurlers for the coming season.

The 27-year-old O'Grady, who made his championship debut against Laois in 2003, looks set to succeed Benny Dunne as skipper of the Premier county.

The versatile forward captained Thurles to their first Dan Breen Cup triumph in 31 years last season.

O'Grady notched goals as a substitute in Tipp's two Munster SHC outings against Limerick last May.

Tipp manager Michael 'Babs' Keating will confirm his captain in the coming weeks.

Keating will put his panel through their paces next Saturday when they take on UCC in a challenge match at Thurles' Dr Morris Park (throw-in 11.30am).
