This coming Sunday the TG4 Underdogs side, managed by former Offaly boss Pat Fleury, will take on the might of Kilkenny's senior hurlers on the hallowed turf of Nowlan Park (throw-in 1.45pm).
Since the trials process in June, the Underdogs have faced vigorous mental and physical training, military-style discipline and a ruthless elimination process.
Their strength, stamina and skill have been tested by inter-county sides such as Tipperary, Clare, Limerick and Waterford.
The Underdogs, who will wear black and red on Sunday, are now, in effect, themselves an inter-county team and a side to be reckoned with. This is a challenge that Kilkenny will take seriously, particularly after the Underdogs’ sensational defeat of All-Ireland football champions Kerry last year.
The legendary Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh will be commentating on Sunday's mouth-watering clash, Seán Bán Breathnach will host the proceedings, with ex-Cork manager Dónal O'Grady on hand to offer his expert analysis. Live coverage, which will also include Tom Ó Branagáin operating as the sideline reporter, begins on TG4 from 1.30pm.
*Tickets are priced at €10, and are available between 9.30am and 2pm, Monday to Friday and from 10am on match-day from Nowlan Park, and from S.O.S, Callan Road, Kilkenny, between 9.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. The proceeds from ticket sales will go to the charity S.O.S Kilkenny Ltd.
