Groin woe for Cavan star Lyng

Cavan forward Micheal Lyng will miss the opening stages of the 2006 Allianz NFL campaign due to a groin injury.

Lyng, who helped his club Cavan Gaels to their third successive county football title in October, has been advised to undergo a 12-week recovery programme.

Dogged by injuries this season, Lyng, a versatile and free-scoring half-forward, sustained his second groin injury in 12 months when injuring himself in training with the Ulster Interpro panel last month.

Cavan open their National League Division 2B account against Louth at Breffni Park on February 5 next.
