Talk of easy draw ‘rubbish’, says Moran

Mickey Moran has moved quickly to dispel the thoughts that his Mayo side have been handed an “easy” Connacht SFC draw for 2006.

While Moran’s competitive reign as manager of Mayo’s senior footballers gets under way in the forthcoming FBD League, the real business will start on Sunday, May 28 when a tricky trip to London awaits in the first round of the Connacht championship.

Lowly Leitrim await the winners of that tie in the semi-finals, but wily campaigner Moran is already talking up the opposition.

“If people are saying that we got a great championship draw, then they’re talking rubbish,” he told the Mayo News.

“London nearly caught Roscommon last year. I saw them against Monaghan myself and they caused them plenty of problems too.

“You also have to remember that Leitrim really put it up to Galway so it’s up to us to prepare ourselves, and impose our game onto these teams.”

The Derry native has two more county trial sessions to go before he and assistant John Morrisson will select “about 36 players” for the FBD League.
