McGrath names Irish International Rules team

A 27-man Irish International Rules squad has been named this afternoon by manager Peter McGrath for next month’s tour to Australia.

A total of ten will be hoping to make their debut Down Under, including All Ireland winning captain Brian Dooher.

The others are team-mates Phillip Jordan, Ryan McMenamin, and Stephen O’Neill, as well as Ronan Clarke, Colm Cooper, Michael McVeigh, Michael Meehan, Owen Mulligan, Ross Munnelly,

Thirteen counties in all are represented with Tyrone providing seven players, while Cork and this years runners-up Kerry have three each.

Galway’s Padraig Joyce will captain the team.

Kerryman Tadhg Kennelly, who has just won the AFL Grand Final with the Sydney Swans, has withdrawn from the squad with an ankle injury.

The first test is in Perth on October 21st, with the second a week later in Melbourne.
