Canavan to take last stand for Red Hands

Fresh from Sunday's All-Ireland final, Peter Canavan will pull on a Tyrone jersey for the final time tonight in the annual GOAL Challenge at Healy Park, Omagh (6pm).

The 34-year-old forward, who announced his retirement in the aftermath of the 1-16 to 2-10 win over Kerry, will line out for Tyrone against a Carrickmore selection in the charity money-raising match.

Tickets are available at the gate.

Having paraded the Sam Maguire Cup around Tyrone on Monday night, Mickey Harte's victorious squad have little time to rest as eighteen of them are required by their clubs for county championship action this coming weekend.

Most notably, five-time All-star Canavan is on duty for Errigal Ciaran against a Moortown side sure to contain veteran defender Chris Lawn, who also confirmed his inter-county retirement this week.

The Clan na nGael v Cookstown first round tie will see Tyrone captain Brian Dooher, top-scorer Stephen O'Neill and the All-Ireland final's man-of-the-match Owen Mulligan thrust back into action.

Elsewhere, there will be notable returns to the fray for Sean Cavanagh, Philip Jordan and Ryan Mellon for Moy against Donaghmore, while star defender Ryan McMenamin will play for Dromore against Trillick.
