Andrews quits Louth post

Louth senior footballers are managerless this afternoon following the decision of boss Val Andrews to quit.

In a text message to players Andrews regretted that he had to inform them in this way of his departure from the position. He thanked all the players for their effort and told them to keep at it for the future.

Louth lost the Leinster Championship opener to Offaly on the first day of this year’s championship at Navan before exiting the All-Ireland Qualifier Series to Monaghan by the minimum margin.

Andrews was in his second year as Louth manager. He first came to prominence as coach of the IT Tralee team which won the Sigerson Cup and subsequently was appointed as manager of the Cavan Senior football team.

He is a member of the Ballymun Kickhams club in Dublin and also has strong family connections in Meath GAA circles.
