Tyrone's Cavanagh in Aussie Rules talks
Sean Cavanagh may be eyeing up a September tilt at a second All-Ireland SFC medal, but Aussie Rules glory seems a long-term goal for the Tyrone midfielder.
AFL Premiership side the Brisbane Lions sent club scouts to Ireland in the past week, and they met 22-year-old Cavanagh, while also taking in last Sunday's Leinster final.
Cavanagh, a qualified accountant, who has struck four points in four games this summer, has reportedly agreed terms with the Lions and will fly Down Under after Tyrone's All-Ireland interest ends.
If he does link up with the Lions - currently ninth in the Premiership ladder - Cavanagh will become the fourth high-profile GAA player to sign professional forms with an Aussie Rules club since 1999.
Kerryman Tadhg Kennelly has succeeded in becoming a first-choice half-back at the Sydney Swans since joining six years ago as an 18-year-old, while Cork's Ó hAilpín brothers - Setanta and Aisake - are currently plugging away in the rookie ranks at the Carlton Blues.
