Hayes inspires Galway to victory
Limerick 2-14 Galway 1-18
Damien Hayes starred as Galway topped group A of the All-Ireland SHC Qualifiers Round Three at the Gaelic Grounds tonight.
The Tribesmen held on, largely thanks to Portumna's Hayes (1-4), who scored 1-3 in an inspired first half performance.
In the second half Limerick came strong, Donie Ryan scoring a goal in the first minute, then winning a penalty, which TJ Ryan goalled from on 39 minutes.
In a tight closing period it was Galway who held their nerve as Limerick's late assault proved fruitless, going down by a solitary point.
The result means Galway top section A and avoid Cork and Kilkenny in Quarter-Final draw.
