Tommy Murphy Cup draw live on radio

RTE Radio One's "The Championship" programme will play host to the first round draw of this year's Tommy Murphy Cup this evening.

The show, which starts at 7pm and is hosted by GAA commentator Brian Carthy, will feature the draw for the second-tier football competition, which debuted in 2004.

Clare emerged victorious in the competition's inaugural final last August - beating Sligo by two points and earning a trip to Boston to play the North American County Board All-stars.

This summer's winners will be off to New York in October.

The 11 teams entering tonight's draw are: London, Roscommon, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Longford, Tipperary, Waterford, Fermanagh, Antrim and the losers of Sunday's second round qualifier between Wexford and Monaghan.

The three first round games (involving the first six teams drawn out) are due to take place over the weekend of July 16-17. The winners will advance to the quarter-finals, to face the other five sides, which will take place on the weekends of July 30 and August 6.

The semi-finals will follow on August 21, and the Tommy Murphy Cup final is scheduled as a curtain raiser to one of the All-Ireland SFC semi-final ties on September 4.
