New site lets hurling fans have their say
Guinness has launched a new website asking hurling fans all over Ireland to log on and choose their top-15 hurling legends from a panel of 75 players.
Four of the nominees – Wexford’s Martin Storey, Clare’s Davy Fitzgerald, Galway’s Ollie Canning and Waterford’s Ken McGrath - attended the launch.
www.guinnesshurling.ie, which goes live the day of the Guinness Munster Final (June 26) is expected to attract a huge amount of interest from hurling supporters all over the country eager to ensure that they have their say.
The shortlist was compiled by a panel of sports journalists and covers players who have played over the last 10 years, since the commencement of the Guinness sponsorship in 1995.
Nine hurling strongholds are represented. Each player who receives the biggest number of votes in a specific position will go through to the final team.
Fans who identify all 15 players on the final team will be entered into a draw, and one lucky winner and three friends will be invited to attend an event later this year, at which the Guinness team of legends will be honoured.
The closing date for entries is August 31.
