Down in scoring form against London

Down 4-25 London 1-17

Down predictably won through to an Ulster SHC semi-final against Derry next weekend as they forced four goals past a London side who fell off the wagon in the closing half-hour.

John Crossey’s men jumped the opening hurdle on the way to their first provincial title since 1997 in solid enough fashion.

The Mourne men racked up an eight-point lead - 2-13 to 0-11 - by the break in Belfast. Gareth Johnston (six minutes) and Martin Coulter (26 minutes), set up by Paul Braniff, bagged Down's goals.

Kevin McMullen found the net for London on 51 minutes, while closing goals from Coulter and Emmett Trainor sealed Down's passage through without much fuss.

Down wing back and skipper Simon Wilson was the game's outstanding player. He mopped up everything that came his way in a strong display from the Ballycran man.
