Ford names team for opener v New York

Galway manager Peter Ford has included six of the U21 All-Ireland-winning team for next Sunday's Connacht football championship opener against New York.

However, Ford is without U21 skipper Alan Burke, who is exam-tied. Also ruled out of the trip Stateside due to exams are goalkeeper Brian O'Donoghue and midfielder Paul Geraghty.

There are four members of the Meehan family travelling as part of the squad - Tomas, Declan, Noel and ace attacker Michael.

Michael Donnellan, whose solo run was voted the GAA's top moment by RTE viewers last weekend, is also set to line out for the county for the first time since last year's championship.
