Tipp goals prove the difference

Galway were outgunned by three-goal Tipp this afternoon in Salthill as the Premier picked up their first Division One, second phase win.

Wing forward Mark O'Leary scored two of their three first-half goals, netting the first after only a minute, as Tipp opened up with a 1-03 to no score lead.

Galway's league top scorer Ger Farragher replied with the home side's first point and although he and midfielder Richie Murray kept the scoreboard ticking, Tipp were 3-07 to 0-11 in front at the interval.

Full-forward Michael Webster and O'Leary again registered two goals in two minutes, late in the first half.

Although Tipp hit eleven wides altogether, Eoin Kelly was on hand with nine first class scores to ease Ken Hogan's men to victory.

Murray (0-04) and corner forward Damien Hayes continued to spark for the home side as they ran Tipp to a goal in the closing stages, but five points without reply from the Munster side - including a two-point sideline cut from Kelly - rounded out an excellent afternoon's work for them.
