Down celebrate two-point win over Laois

A star performance from Ross Munnelly wasn’t enough to earn Laois victory against Down at Portlaoise today.

The home side did have the better of the first half and led 0-6 to 0-5 at the break.

There was little between the sides and they were locked on 0-7 each five minutes into the second half.

Down then took the lead for the first time in the game as Benny Coulter popped over a point on 42 minutes.

Munnelly levelled before John Clarke and Ronan Murtagh stretched the lead to 0-10 to 0-8. Laois levelled again before Coulter and substitute Shane Ward gave Down a 0-12 to 0-10 winning lead.

Earlier, Galway beat hosts Wexford 0-15 to 1-7 as Padraig Joyce put on a star performance, scoring ten of Galway’s 15 points.
