Mayo trio key to win over Offaly

Offaly 2-11 Mayo 2-12

The elusive forward trio of Alan Dillon, Conor Mortimer and captain Ciaran McDonald together hit 10 points for Connacht champions Mayo as they overcame a late rally from Offaly for a 2-12 to 2-11 win in Tullamore.

Kevin Kilmurray's Faithfuls sit bottom and perilously close to the top flight drop, after picking up their third defeat of the Division 1A campaign.

It was the home side however, who hit the front as Mark Daly set up John Reynolds for an early goal.

Despite this, Mayo led 0-08 to 1-04 at the break thanks to a late Dillon strike, with Roy Malone and Colm Quinn on target in the closing stages for Offaly.

A Gary Mullins centre on 43 minutes saw Aidan Kilcoyne goal for Mayo and crucially send them further in front and in all, John Maughan's men struck 1-02 in the space of four second half minutes.

A second goal followed for John Prenty on 66 minutes when a sharp move involving James Gill and the unmarked Dillon helped Mayo move 2-12 to 1-11 clear.

Prenty's punched finish was cancelled out in the closing stages as Quinn grabbed a stoppage time goal, however Mayo were the more deserving of the spoils.
