Former selector Joe McKenna has been appointed Limerick senior hurling manager.

Former selector Joe McKenna has been appointed Limerick senior hurling manager.

Former player McKenna, a close friend of sponsor JP McManus, was the favourite to land the position after Padjoe Whelahan left his post last week.

A vote of no confidence in McKenna and his selector Declan Nash was narrowly defeated (62-58) at Tuesday night's county board meeting. Liam Lenihan is to join the duo as a selector.

The county board also decided to appoint a hurling coach and recommended that the county's policy on dual players be relaxed.
