Ilen Rovers star set for Cork start

Kevin O’Sullivan could be in line for a starting role when the Cork football team is named tonight for Sunday’s crunch third round NFL tie against Mayo in Ballina, the Evening Echo reports.

With James Masters ruled out of selection after picking up an injury in Garda’s Sigerson Cup defeat to UCC 12 days ago, the Cork selectors are certain to make at least one change in the Cork forward line.

Ilen Rovers star O’Sullivan and Nemo’s Alan Cronin are both in contention for a starting place.

Both have impressed after being sprung from the bench in Cork’s opening games against Kerry and Westmeath respectively.

O’Sullivan is reported to have had a fine game against Wicklow in a recent challenge and that form might tip the balance in his favour.

Elsewhere, Anthony Lynch could be in line for a return to the full-back line after being given the all clear on the shoulder injury which ruled him out of the Westmeath game.

But with Graham Canty still not fully recovered from the knee injury which ruled him out of the opening two league games, Derek Kavanagh is likely to start at midfield again on Sunday.

That could mean a second start at full-back for Martin Cronin, who despite a difficult game against Westmeath, is reported to have had a very solid game against Wicklow at the weekend.
