Cork claim victory in Wexford
Wexford 0-15 Cork 1-13
All-Ireland champions Cork bagged their second win on the trot, to keep the pressure on Munster rivals Tipp at Wexford Park.
Timmy McCarthy scored the all-important goal against the run of play in the second half, as Joe Allen's men picked off a 1-13 to 0-15 win over Leinster champions Wexford.
The Rebels - who lost Jonathan O'Callaghan beforehand to a broken finger and defender Brian Murphy to the flu - were 0-05 to 0-03 in front on the quarter-hour.
Paul Carley's dead-ball proficiency kept the Model men in touch, as McCarthy, Joe Deane and Tom Kenny opened well in the Cork attack.
Des Mythen and Mitch Jordan ensured the hosts were in touch at just 0-07 to 0-08 down at the break, after Deane had been unfortunate to hit the Wexford side-netting with a glorious goal chance.
Wexford led for a period in the second half, with a hat-trick of unanswered points from Redmond Barry and Wayne Doran seeing them hit the front.
Another Carley shot saw them head into the closing stages with a 0-12 to 0-08 buffer.
But McCarthy's well-struck goal, along with points from Jerry O'Connor, Niall McCarthy, one of three McCarthys in the Cork half-forward line, with Garvan McCarthy deputising for O'Callaghan - Neil Ronan and Joe Deane saw Cork to victory.
