Dubs no match for Tribesmen
Galway 3-19 Dublin 0-12
Dublin were dished up at lunch-time in Salthill and proved no match for a hungry Galway side in their opening NHL Division 1A clash.
With Ollie Canning's expected appearance in the Tribesmen's midfield was called off due to a wrist injury, that left top scorers Damien Hayes and Kevin Broderick to take centre stage with 1-02 apiece.
The visitors were blown away in the second half, having left Conor Hayes' side with much to ponder at just 1-09 to 0-08 in front at the break.
Damien Hayes picked off a hat-trick of points with David Forde netting early from a Broderick set-up.
With Dublin goalkeeper Gary Maguire being forced to deny the nippy Ger Farragher twice, Broderick tempered thoughts of a comeback from the Metropolitans with his second half goal.
Stuart Mullen and Emmet Carroll offered the Dubs hope with their point-taking, but with Hayes firing past an unlucky Maguire in the closing stages and Fergal Healy topping off his six points from play, Galway eased home.
