Down humble Limerick at Gaelic Grounds

Limerick 0-07 Down 1-08

Down went two for two as a 57th-minute goal from Shane Ward proved decisive at Limerick's Gaelic Grounds.

Ward's effort fended off the Treaty side, despite trailing 0-03 to 0-04 at the break of a poor game.

Ronan Sexton - who finished with 0-03 in all - pointed early on, as did Ronan Murtagh in a bright enough opening.

Ger Aherne's 20th-minute point, a Michael Reidy effort and a brace from Johnny Murphy handed them their interval lead.

Murtagh and David Kearney sent Down into the lead on the restart, and although Conor Fitzgerald levelled, Ward profited from Ambrose Rogers' long ball-in to hit the game's only goal.

Reidy and Murphy reduced the deficit but the Mourne men staved off their charge with late points from Dan Hughes and John Lavery.
