Munster's traditional big guns, Cork and Kerry, face off in the opening match of the 2005 National Football League tonight under lights at Páirc Uí Rinn.

Both sides have decided to field their big guns for the tie. Darragh Ó Sé and Seamus Moynihan return for the defending League and All-Ireland champions after missing the latter stages of the championship through injury.

They return to a side that includes All-Star attacker Colm Cooper and Footballer of the Year Tomás Ó Sé.

Noel Kennelly, Paddy Kelly, Declan Quill and Mossy Lyons are also back in action.

Meanwhile, Cork boss Billy Morgan has retained just six of the players who started in last season's championship defeat by Fermanagh for tonight's clash.

Defenders Sean O'Brien, Gary Murphy and Eoin Sexton, midfielders Miceál O'Sullivan and Graham Canty, centre-forward Ciaran O'Sullivan and the full-forward line of Colin Crowley, Colin Corkery and Alan Cronin have all been dropped for the match.

Netminder Kevin O'Dwyer, full-back Derek Kavanagh, centre-back Sean Levis, who captains the side, left wing-back Martin Cronin and centre-forward Conor McCarthy are the five who retain their places.

Niall Geary and Anthony Lynch begin at corner-back and Noel O'Leary is chosen at wing-back.

Nicholas Murphy partners Diarmuid Hurley at midfield and a number of new young players are named in attack.

Mallow's Cian O'Riordan and Carbery Rangers' Kevin MacMahon flank McCarthy in the half-forward line, while James Masters, Brendan Jer O'Sullivan and John Hayes are named in the full-forward line.

Colin Crowley, Graham Canty and Philip Clifford are ruled out through injury.

As defending champions, Kerry are favourites to pick up their first league points, but Cork have home advantage and need no motivation to lift their game against their nearest rivals.
