Derry claim delayed win

Derry 1-14 Queen's University 1-08

A hungrier Derry side claimed a 1-14 to 1-08 victory today in their thrice-postponed Dr McKenna Cup SF Section B clash with Queen's University.

The Lavey win - the Oak Leafers' third win of the competition - sees them through to a semi-final clash with fellow 2004 All-Ireland semi-finalists, Fermanagh, next Sunday in Omagh.

Having led 0-09 to 0-05 into the second half, Mickey Moran's side surged through to top spot in Section B with a superbly-taken 40th-minute goal from corner-forward Padraig Murphy.

Dara Tierney's late goal was little more than a consolation for the Belfast students, who have no answer to the firepower of Paddy Bradley, Johnny McBride and Conleth Gilligan.

The winners of Derry v Fermanagh will meet holders Tyrone in the February 20 final.
