James Stephens win Leinster Club Hurling title

The James Stephens club of Kilkenny collected the AIB Leinster club championship, at O'Moore park in Portlaoise this afternoon.

In defeating the controversial Dublin champs UCD by a solitary point they ended a famine of 23 years in collecting both county and provincial honours.

Eoin Larkin on the village side netted in the first half with a spectacular drive from 21 yards out to copper-fasten a superb first half display leaving the students 10 points in arrears at half time.

The Dublin students, with six different county men in their ranks, learned their lesson and in a storming 2nd half display ran the village close with a goal from David Carter pushing to within two points of the Cats.

However with only minutes remaining James McCormack tapped over the winning point to secure glory for only the third time in James Stephens history.

They go on to meet Antrim and Ulster champions O'Donovan Rossa in the all-Ireland semi-final.
