Murphy takes charge on Wexford hurlers

Rathnure's Seamus Murphy has been announced as the new Wexford senior hurling manager. He takes over from club colleague John Conran, who departed due to family and business commitments.

Murphy's appointment is the county's fourth in six years.

He will be joined by county secretary Michael Kinsella who has been appointed as team coach. Two further selectors will be appointed.

Murphy is a former Wexford Under 21 manager and was in charge of the team in 2001 and 2002 when they won two successive Leinster titles. He also played inter county hurling for the county.

1996 All-Ireland winning boss Liam Griffin ruled himself out of the running last week, while county legend George O'Connor confirmed himself too busy with work commitments.

Murphy managed Rathnure to two senior hurling titles, failing in his hat-trick bid this year when losing out to Oulart-the-Ballagh.
