O'Connell set to cross county divide

Former Clare substitute goalkeeper Ger O’Connell looks set to change his county allegiance after requesting a transfer.

O'Connell, who lives and works in Limerick city, has asked fro a transfer from his native Clonlara to city intermediate club Claughaun.

O'Connell's Clare appearances have been limited due to the dominance enjoyed by Davy Fitzgerald for more than a decade.

O'Connell is believed to have already trained with the Limerick senior team, with manager Padjoe Whelahan keen to have a long-term netminder in place for the forthcoming season.
