McManus bucks trend with switch to oval ball

Offaly football skipper and International Rules star Ciaran McManus is set to switch codes to rugby for the off-season.

McManus turned out for training with Buccaneers RFC on Tuesday night and impressed rugby observers in his first run out.

McManus could be in line for a starting place in the side for Buccaneers' next AIB All-Ireland League match against Co Carlow on December 4.

However, he was keen to stress that he was only playing rugby to keep fit during the winter months.
