O'Connor out of Wexford job running

Wexford hurling legend George O’Connor has ruled himself out of the race to succeed John Conran as the Slaneysiders' hurling manager.

Wexford hurling legend George O’Connor has ruled himself out of the race to succeed John Conran as the Slaneysiders' hurling manager.

O’Connor, who won an All-Ireland medal in 1996, cited family and business commitments as the reason for his not contesting the position.

He said: "The day of the amateur manager is long gone given the demands, and given my family and farming commitments I'll not be entering the race."

O’Connor guided Kilmore to a Junior Football Champinship title last year and was also involved with the Wexford minor hurling team.

Conran relinquished his position in the wake of Wexford's 18-point defeat by eventual champions Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final.
