Ireland dominant in inaugural camogie international
Ireland 10-18 An Bhreatain 1-3
Ireland, represented by Purcell Cup Combined-Third Level Colleges team, handed their British counterparts a 42-point beating in the first ever International Camogie Competition at Croke Park.
Skippered by Galway inter-county star Theres Maher, the Irish outclassed the visitors, who had defeated the United States 5-9 to 2-3 at Parnell Park on Thursday.
Athlone IT's Marice Flanagan scored a fine opening goal and Marie Keating of Limerick IT and GMIT's Emma Kilkenny were just some of the other first-half goal scorers.
Michael Cleary's side pressed home their advantage after the break as Maynooth's Yvonne Carney and Carlow IT duo Catherine Doherty and Caitriona Ryan beat An Bhreatain goalkeeper Mary O'Connor.
O'Connor was indeed unfortunate to ship another late goal, as she lost the flight of a set piece in the midday sun and GMIT's Claire Conroy was on hand to bat home.
