Galway hurling semi postponed

Sunday's Galway senior hurling semi-final between Gort and Athenry has been postponed after defeated quarter-finalists Loughrea made an appeal to the county board.

Loughrea gave a video tape of their quarter-final match with Athenry to the board, sparking a disciplinary inquiry. The match last Sunday week was marred by violent scenes.

Athenry’s John Feeney and Loughrea’s Greg Kennedy, also a county senior hurler, were sent off.

Witnesses said there were several other unsavoury incidents during the game that deserved dismissals.

The county board has called a meeting for tonight to investigate the matter.
