The Leitrim county board are on the verge of announcing their new football manager.

A final decision on who will succeed Declan Rowley is expected on Friday, with the appointment due to be ratified at Monday's board meeting.

Leitrim natives Martin McGowan and Pat Prior are strong contenders for the position.

McGowan guided Leitrim's junior footballers to this year’s All-Ireland final, which they lost to Waterford, while Prior steered the county's minors to the Connacht title six years ago.

Dessie Dolan, father of Westmeath star Dessie Jnr and trainer of Longford side Ballymahon, has also been touted for the job.

Leitrim had a disappointing run this year. They went out of Connacht at the semi-final stage to Roscommon after a replay, and were hammered a week later by Dublin in the qualifiers.
