Veteran panellist Paul Durcan is favourite to succeed ex Sligo manager James Kearins after he (Kearins) stepped down after less than a year at the helm.

Kearins replaced Peter Ford just before the beginning of the National Football League but failed to make any advances with the team.

Sligo went down to Roscommon following a replay in the Connacht championship and then suffered a surprise loss to Clare in the qualifiers, sending them into the Tommy Murphy Cup competition.

However, Kearins created controversy by refusing to prepare the team for the Cup and Durcan, who retired last month, took over for the contest.
